Best for: intermediate learners (A2–B2) who want real exposure to the language.
Pros:
– Real immersion

– Vocabulary tracking
Cons:
– Slight learning curve
– Not ideal for total beginners

Duoling – Explore and Build Daily Habit
Check out Duolingo here
For beginners, it’s one of the easiest entry points into a new language. It removes the intimidation factor and makes starting simple.
Best for: complete beginners (A0–A2) who need structure and daily motivation.
Pros:
– Extremely beginner-friendly
– Gamified habit-building
– Good introduction to vocabulary
– Super version removes ads and distractions
Cons:
– Not enough for intermediate fluency
– Limited depth in grammar explanations
– Can create false confidence if used alone

italki – Putting It to Practice

Reading and apps are important — but speaking is where progress becomes real. I use italki to practice conversational German and push myself beyond passive learning.
Best for: learners A2+ who want real conversation practice and accountability.
Pros:
– Real one-on-one speaking practice
– Flexible scheduling
– Wide range of price points
– Great for exam preparation (Goethe, DELE, etc.)
Cons:
– Requires scheduling and commitment
– Building rapport with a teacher can take time
